Kate John – Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapist

PROFILE
Originally trained as a massage therapist back in 1991. After which I tried my hand at make up artistry qualifying from the London college of Fashion in 1994, working in film and television for 12 years. After my first child was born nearly 14 years ago I decided to go back to my massage routes so I could work around being a mum, which works well. Nearly 7 years ago I decided to specialise in Manual Lymphatic Drainage and trained at the renowned Foldi clinic in Germany, qualifying as a Complete decongestive therapist.

In 2011 due to my mother suffering from Lymphodema herself and struggling to find a local therapist I decided to train as there is a huge need for qualified therapists. For the past four and a half years I worked at the Arthur Rank Hospice in Cambridge in the Lymphodema clinic as an MLD therapist, working with men and women with both Primary and Secondary lymphodema, which also includes bandaging and fitting patients with made to measure compression garments from various medical suppliers.

Whilst being at the hospice for the past 6 years I have worked from home as well, seeing a huge variety of patients requiring MLD with an increase in pre and post cosmetic surgery. I'm qualified in Kienesio taping and furthering my skills by training one year ago at the lymphodema training academy with Jane Wigg and Professor Belgrado in the new pioneering technique of Floroscopy Guided Manual Lymphatic Drainage and have seen first hand quicker and better results on my patients using this method.
